red and orange

Corn Poppy Papaver rhoeas

Red-hot-poker Kniphofia uvaria

I never though I'd use so many reds and oranges in my garden.
I've always felt that they are loud and obnoxious in a garden,
and annoyed by how they interfered
with a tasteful and sophisticated atmosphere that I'd wanted to create.

I wanted those lovely blues, gentle peaces and blushes.
Maybe a little sprinkle of pale yellow,
and of course lots of white to tie everything together.

The problem is that pastels don't look good here.
The sun is too strong.  In fact stronger than most people can imagine.

This is still a new garden.
I will have to rely on the reds and oranges
until the trees and shrubs grow tall enough for shades.

They are kind of growing on me.
Who knows, I may let them stay.

Behave, everyone.

Asiatic lily

Garden log: cleaned and treated the pond, deadheading
                    picked strawberries, broccoli and lettuce
                    lavenders are about to open
                    lost one pepper plant
